Student Travel Awards
The North American Sturgeon and Paddlefish Society (NASPS) announces the availability of two travel awards for students to attend the NASPS Symposium in Quebec City, Quebec as a part of the American Fisheries Society Conference from August 17-21, 2014.
NASPS is a society of Scientists, Biologists, Researchers, Instructors, Artists, Anglers, and Sturgeon Enthusiasts. The Society's objectives focus on the conservation, restoration, development, awareness, and wise use of sturgeon and paddlefish fisheries. Further, the Society seeks to promote and evaluate the development and advancement of sturgeon and paddlefish fisheries science and management.
Two travel awards for $250 each will be provided to graduate students or exceptional undergraduate students from Canada and the U.S. who are giving a poster or oral presentation related to NASPS objectives to help defer travel expenses. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student in Canada or the U.S. and must be student members of NASPS. To apply, please submit the following:
1. A copy of your submitted abstract;
2. A letter specifying your need for assistance with travel costs to attend the meeting, which should also describe your educational history (degrees, grade point average (overall and in major), relevant courses taken (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)) and past commitment to sturgeon and paddlefish science (meeting attendance and participation, committee involvement, publications, and presentations of sturgeon and paddlefish research at meetings);
3. A letter of support from your advisor.
Funds are not distributed in advance. Students must be present at the meeting to receive the funds. Submit materials electronically by June 30th, 2014 to:
