NASPS Student Subunit Announcements

Call for NASPS Student Subunit Members

Students!! If you are engaged in sturgeon or paddlefish research, or are even remotely concerned about the conservation, restoration, and management of these amazing fishes, please join our ranks! The Student Subunit of NASPS is brand new this year and is seeking members. The work we engage in not only advances sturgeon and paddlefish science but allows members to be immersed in a professional fisheries community with ample opportunities to network, develop skills, and make the transition from student to young professional. See the ‘Students’ tab on the NASPS website for more membership benefits, our mission statement, and how to join us (http://www.nasps-sturgeon.org/).

2016 Meeting Student Announcements

The NASPS annual meeting in Hood River, OR this year will feature several events specifically designed for student members. In addition to a forum for presenting and watching sturgeon and paddlefish research, the meeting will include a Student-Mentor social where students can speak to professionals in various disciplines in round-robin fashion with 5 minute rotations. Light appetizers and beverages will be provided. Following the Student-Mentor social, students will meet up and walk to a nearby establishment to digest what they learned and just hang out and have a good time. The Student Subunit is also organizing a raffle and 5k run event.

Students giving an oral or poster presentation are also highly encouraged to apply for one of two Student Travel Awards ($250 each) to help defray meeting and travel costs. The student registration rate for the Hood River annual meeting is $295 USD.
