The conference is planned by the hosting organizations BOKU and IGb as a joint European team effort under the thematic umbrella “150 years of decline – how to turn the trend?”

Vienna is located in the heart of Europe and is regarded one of the most beautiful historic capitals on the Danube, hence the conference site is the link between Western and Eastern Europe. It also is the gate to the Middle and Lower Danube.

Conference topics originate from the fields of

- General biology and ecology

- Status and management of populations

- Historic and present importance of sturgeons on a community level

- Human impacts on sturgeons stocks and mitigation measures

- Aquaculture

- Processing and marketing

- Caviar

- Regulations for conservation and international trade

A major focus for the conservation related topics will be placed on the lessons to learn from successful recovery programs and the intercultural exchange on its prerequisites.

The commercial aspects of sturgeon related research and management will be emphasized by a strong involvement of the aquaculture industry in the conference and its side events.

Be curious – we look forward to seeing you in Vienna in 2017!
